Vohra Method Training

In 2007, Arvin Vohra Education embarked on a project to create a course that would be just as rigorous, flexible, and effective as AVE’s world-class tutoring program. The course had to be able to make any student excel at math, reading, the sciences, the SAT, the SAT IIs, and AP exams. It needed powerful incentives to make absolutely any student excel, no matter how ambitious or unmotivated. It needed to be able to discover and correct all gaps in each student’s foundation. And it had to be completely affordable. This system, which we called The Vohra Method, combines the flexibility and targeting of AVE’s private tutoring approach, the structure found in AVE’s rigorous seminars, and the powerful cognitive incentives found in AVE’s curricula and software programs. This April, AVE offered the first course based on this innovative, responsive curriculum. These courses of 12-15 students are ideal for the SAT, SAT II, AP, math, sciences, reading, writing, and grammar.

SAT Guarantee: If, after completing the SAT Training (length of time varies based on starting level, and can range from 8 weeks to 8 months), the student’s score improves by less than 450 points, and his score is less than 2250, he can do an additional 6 months of SAT training for free.

Academic Guarantee: After 6 months of training for any subject (e.g. Algebra, Chemistry) at 4 hours a week, any time the student gets less than an A- on any test or exam in the subject, he can do 2 weeks of training for free (up to one 4 hour session per week).

Hands-on Learning Works Better than Lecture

The Vohra Method uses active learning, not passive, lecture-based learning. Through our progressive, hands-on tutorials, students learn in a more engaging, challenging, and rigorous way.

The Vohra Method's active learning also allows more flexible pacing. A lecture based class has to move at a fixed pace that is too slow for some and too fast for others. This leaves half the class bored, and half the class confused. At best, the pace might be ideal for one student in the class.

The Vohra Method's targeted, hands-on learning allows students to work at their optimal pace. Each student learns the material thoroughly, without any unnecessary gaps in comprehension. At the same time, the Vohra Method's incentives encourage students to work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Diagnostics Work Better Than Tests

Standard: A Student takes a test, looks at his score, and maybe gives a cursory glance at the questions he got wrong. The result is that students make the same mistakes test after test, and develop long-term gaps in their comprehension.

Vohra Method: Each test – practice SAT, AVE diagnostic, etc. - is thoroughly analyzed. The student must redo any question he gets wrong, and then do a compete lesson on the topic. The result is a solid, gap-free understanding.

Targeted Learning Works Better Than One Size Fits All

In standard courses, all students are given the same lectures, lessons, and practice. In Vohra Method classes, on the other hand, each student is given progressive lessons based on their diagnostics. The course finds gaps in each student's foundation, and precisely targets those gaps. That means that each student trains with materials most appropriate for his needs, instead of wasting time with a generic, unfocused approach.

Mastery Works Better Than Exposure

American education has been called "a mile wide and an inch deep." Students are exposed to concepts, but rarely master them.

The Vohra Method uses challenge problems and hands-on derivations to make sure that students master each concept. This develops not only understanding, but also creative problem solving skills.

Answering Questions Works Better Than Skipping Them

Mass market SAT courses literally teach students how to skip problems. The Vohra Method teaches students to efficiently solve the very problems other courses teach students to skip. Through progressive tutorials, students master the prerequisites and advanced technique that allow them to solve every single problem on the SAT.

Problem Solving Techniques Work Better Than Gimmicks

Most mass market SAT prep courses teach inefficient techniques like "plug-in"and "backsolve". These gimmicks allow students to inefficiently solve easy problems (while weakening their algebraic skills). However, they are completely useless for hard problems. It is hardly surprising that mass market SAT courses also spend a lot of time telling students which questions to skip.

Vohra Method courses teach students to directly and efficiently solve every problem on the SAT, the SAT II subject tests, the ACT, and AP tests. Instead of weakening their academic foundation with silly gimmicks, students learn methods like combinatorics, factoring, and substitution to efficiently solve the toughest problems.

Forcing the Mind to Learn Works Better Than Just Hoping for the Best

Most classes essentially hope that grades are strong enough incentives to make each student truly master the material. The Vohra Method uses much more effective incentives. Any time a student gets a problem wrong on the test, he is given several problems like it to make sure he thoroughly learns the material. Additionally, each student gets several cumulative diagnostics that make sure that he has not forgotten any key concepts. Anything they forget, they relearn through a modular tutorial.

Simply put, the Vohra Method literally forces each student's mind to master the information. The Vohra Method does not even give the student the option of forgetting important concepts.

A Limitless Curriculum Works Better Than A Limited One

A six week SAT course cannot possibly cover everything each student needs. Instead, it has to pick a few topics, and leave out the rest.

The Vohra Method's curriculum literally has no limit. First, the curriculum's modular tutorials cover literally hundreds of common areas of difficulty. And if a student has a need that is not covered, AVE constructs a new tutorial to address that problem!
