April 7, 2005 | AVE Offers Rapid Analytical Reading Class
In June of 2005 AVE will be holding its first Rapid Analytical Reading class. This class, geared towards talented high-school students, represents the culmination of 3 years of research and development.
Development of the Rapid Analytical Reading method began in 2002. AVE's goal at the time was to develop a speed reading method that could effectively handle the kinds of grammatically complex language that tended to overwhelm earlier speed reading systems. From the start, development focused on the cognitive aspects of reading, instead of the visual aspects traditionally emphasized by older methods. Early versions of the Rapid Analytical Reading method used grammatical structure as a guide for comprehension. Later methods incorporated grammatical and logical analysis more completely into the reading process. The most recent version uses core sentence structure as the foundation of the reading process, and integrates grammatical analysis with the visual methods associated with earlier speed reading systems.
The Rapid Analytical Reading class will teach high-school students how to quickly analyze complex texts. "High-school and college students don't need help reading magazines," said Arvin Vohra, who headed the Rapid Analytical Reading project. "They need to be able to read literature, textbooks, and SAT passages quickly and accurately. That's what this method is for."
The first Rapid Analytical Reading Class will run for 5 weeks, and will cost $350.
